Household Battery and Cell Phone Recycling Program Announcement

Improper battery disposal presents a fire and environmental hazard.  The Montville Township Police Department has begun a recycling program to encourage proper disposal of household batteries and cell phones.  Residents of Montville Township can bring their batteries and unused cell phones to an attendant at the Police Department reception desk at 6665 Wadsworth Road, Medina from Monday to Friday between 9AM and 4PM.  No batteries or cell phones can be dropped off unless an attendant is on duty to process them.

Eligible batteries include rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries weighing less than 11 pounds.  Automobile, boat and motorcycle batteries are NOT accepted.  Any batteries showing signs of damage such as swelling, smoking, leaking or overheating are NOT accepted.  Cell phone accessories are NOT accepted.

Non-rechargeable batteries will be transported to the Medina County Solid Waste facility in Seville by the Township Service Department for responsible recycling.  Rechargeable batteries and cell phones are sealed and sent to Call2Recyle sorting and processing facilities.

There is no cost to the Township or residents for this program.  Since the program began in April, we’ve already recycled over 130 pounds of rechargeable batteries and cell phones along with more than 100 pounds of single-use batteries.
