Economic Development a Top Priority for Montville Trustees

Montville Township Trustees meet on a regular basis with the Medina County Economic Development Corporation and the City of Medina’s Economic Development Department to discuss job retention and new business opportunities for our region.

The J.E.D.D. Offers Incentives to New Businesses

The Joint Economic Development District – JEDD, was formed in 2009 with the City of Medina, and developed a new revenue stream for Montville Township. In addition to the new tax revenue, the City of Medina agreed to no annexation for a 100 year term and eliminated the Sports Activity Fee (SAP), for the residents of Montville Township.

Financial incentives are available to new businesses entering the JEDD based on their current or projected payrolls. A portion of JEDD revenues are set aside to reinvest back into the businesses participating in the JEDD to help offset costs of development.

Business located or providing work within the JEDD area, either directly or through Sub-Contractors, must register with Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA). Registration form can be found by clicking here. If not sure whether your business or scope of work is within the JEDD, please contact the Planning and Zoning Office, (330) 725-8313.

Community Reinvestment Areas & New Business Incubator Program

The Montville Township Trustees have formed Community Reinvestment Areas (CRA’s), for certain commercially zoned parcels for the purposes of furthering future economic development and bringing new jobs to our area. CRAs involve tax abatement incentives.

Montville Township has participated in the Medina County’s new business incubator program called Entrepreneurial. The goal is to work with new business owners to create and develop new businesses for Medina County and promote new job growth. Services such as managing, accounting, legal as well as funding are available to new entrepreneurs through the program. For more details, contact Bethany Dentler through the Medina County Economic Development Corporation.

The Montville Township Trustees have engaged local and state officials to investigate the viability of a new interchange off I-71 in Montville Township. Several potential sites have been identified and studied. This effort involves Medina County Transportation Improvement District –TIDD, and the Ohio Department of Transportation–ODOT. A new task force is currently being created by the County Engineers office to explore the issue further.
