The Ohio Revised Code requires that the Board of Township Trustees shall create and establish a Board of Zoning Appeals. This Board of Zoning Appeals is composed of five members who are residents of the township.

The trustees may appoint two alternate members to the Board of Zoning Appeals for terms they determine. An alternate member can take the place of an absent regular member at any meeting, according to procedures prescribed by Resolution of the Trustees and in the By-Laws of the Board of Zoning Appeals.

The Board of Zoning Appeal’s responsibilities include the hearing/deciding about appeals of the Zoning Resolution. They are responsible for all variance requests to the Zoning Resolution and determine whether they are acceptable where special conditions exist and substantial justice will be done. In addition, the Board of Zoning Appeals can grant conditional use permits for the use of land, buildings, or other structures if such uses are provided for in the Zoning Resolution. And, the Board of Zoning Appeals can revoke an authorized variance or conditional use permit if any conditions of same are violated.

Board of Zoning Appeals meetings are open to the public and are recorded to show the votes of each regular or alternate member, and to keep records of all official actions, which are filed in the office of the Trustees for public record.

With their meeting schedule on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month starting at 7:00 PM, the Board of Zoning Appeals offers ample time for developers, builders, residents, and other interested parties to present their case.
