Montville Township Planning & Zoning Director

The Planning & Zoning Director is responsible to the Trustees for the present and future planning of the township and enforcement of the Montville Township Zoning Regulations as outlined in the zoning code. This individual performs many duties and responsibilities which include guidance as to land uses to the community, supervision of the zoning office staff, interpretation of the Zoning Resolution for enforcement, and liaison with the township’s attorney, Board of Zoning Appeals, Zoning Commission, and the Township Trustees.

The Planning & Zoning Director also reviews and comments about variance applications, conditional use permit requests, text amendments and change requests, and new site plans. He/she attends meetings held by the Trustees, Board of Zoning Appeals, and Zoning Commission, and provides information pertaining to topics per the Zoning Resolution and zoning office procedures.

What is the role of planning?

Planners work closely with the community, whether it is with individuals, developers, real estate agents or other government entities, to develop and implement a growth plan that follows the outlines of the Montville Township Comprehensive Plan and the Montville Township Zoning Resolution. In using the balanced growth methodology, the township develops at a steady and healthy pace taking into consideration safety services, road maintenance, schools, and the resident’s opinions and visions.

What is Zoning?

Communities use zoning to protect the health, safety, and welfare of its residents. Zoning preserves the character of our community by allowing certain types of development in specific areas and keeping factories out of residential districts and neighborhoods out of retail districts. Of course at some point these may be adjacent to one another.

ADDITIONS, FINISHED BASEMENTS, POOLS (INCLUDING INFLATABLE), FENCES, DECKS, PATIOS, ACCESSORY BUILDINGS (SHEDS, BARNS), WALLS, SIGNS AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS STRUCTURES.
